Tests & Results

How to book appointment for your blood test.

If you are asked to get a blood test, you need to make an appointment for it.

Please visit the Princess Alexandra Hospital website https://www.swiftqueue.co.uk/pah.php to book your appointment.

Test Locations:

  1. Herts and Essex Community Hospital – Bishop’s Stortford
  2. Princess Alexandra Hospital – Harlow
  3. St Margaret’s Hospital – Epping

Booking appointment via telephone.

If you cannot book online, you can call on the number 01279 827 163 and book your appointment for your blood test.

Please note: You do not need a paper request form for your blood tests anymore, your clinician will send the details of your requested tests electronically.

The facility for children’s blood tests is only available at Princess Alexandra Hospital Harlow.

For X-rays, you need neither an appointment or request form, and you can walk in radiology department and get it done once your doctor has requested it on the system.

Your Test Results

You can now see your test results on the NHS App once your doctor or clinician has reviewed them.

After you’ve logged into the app:

  1. Tap “GP Health Record.”
  2. Then select “Test Results.”

You’ll be able to view your results and any comments your doctor or clinician has added. If your results require any follow-up or action, the practice will contact you by telephone or text message. You may also receive a message asking you to call the surgery. Please telephone after 10:00am, when our phone lines are less busy.

If you have not heard from us and cannot access the NHS App, please contact the surgery (the best way to contact surgery is via E consult) after one week of your test. Most results are available within this time, although some specialist tests may take longer.

Important Information

  • Reception staff can only provide information authorised by a doctor.
  • If staff are unable to give you your result, this does not necessarily mean there is a problem — the doctor may wish to discuss it with you directly.
  • Results can only be shared with another person if we have consent documented on records.
  • For patients aged 16 and over, results will only be given to the individual concerned, unless prior consent has been provided to share this information.
  • If your test was carried out at a hospital, please contact the hospital directly, as results may not automatically be sent to the practice. The results of any scans requested by a hospital consultant or doctor goes back to them, and the GP surgery is unable to share or act upon them.

Sample Collection Instructions after a telephone consultation.

If your doctor asks you to give a sample (like urine or stool), they will request on the system.

Please go to the reception at any of our three surgery locations to get:

  • A paper request form
  • A clean container (pot) appropriate for your sample
  • A clear sealable bag

When you take your sample, please:

  • Write your name and details on the container or you can stick the corresponding barcode label from the form
  • Put the paper request and pot in the bag and seal it.
  • Bring them back to reception before 12:00 noon, Monday to Friday.

Please note: If you are housebound, please let the clinician know and he/she can arrange the sample collection via community team.

Thank you for helping us keep your tests on track!
