Testing for HIV – a finger prick test is all it takes If you didn’t know, National HIV Testing Week took place at the start of February to encourage regular testing for HIV across the country.
One in 20 people with HIV are unaware they have it, increasing the risk of passing HIV on to sexual partners. The week was a good reminder that testing is free, fast, confidential and simple. By testing regularly and detecting early, we can ensure any support and treatment that may be required can be received as quickly as possible. Anyone can get an HIV test, no matter what their circumstances are. It’s recommended at least once a year and more regularly if someone’s had unprotected sex, or more than one partner. No one needs to leave their home to have a test – all it takes is a finger-prick test. Free test kits can be ordered online at any time (here: https://freetesting.hiv/). The kits are delivered discreetly, in plain packaging. Anyone diagnosed with HIV in Hertfordshire can access free treatment and support.
